The Drum Leaf Binding is an unsewn book that uses a minimum of glue to bind pages into a book that opens flat. It is perfect for an image that spans the gutter of two pages in a folio. Once learned, the structure can be made easily and quickly. You can present your artwork and photography in a book other than an accordion.
San Diego native, Al Rodríguez, is a retired schoolteacher who taught graphic arts and photography in the San Diego City Schools for 38 years. His life-long interest in paper and printing lead naturally into book arts, an art form that he taught to his students during the final five years of his teaching career. He has served in many capacities with SDBA since his retirement and his work has appeared in many of that organization’s exhibitions. His work is in several private collections including the collections of the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library, La Jolla, and the University of Washington.
